Gas flows and bars in galaxies

چکیده

Dynamical evolution of spiral galaxies is strongly dependent on nonaxisymmetric patterns that develop from gravitational instabilities, either spontaneously or externally triggered. Some evolutionary sequences are described through which a galaxy could possibly concentrate mass and build bulges, how external gas accretion from cosmic filaments could be funneled to the galaxy disks, and intermittently driven to the galaxy center, to form nuclear starbursts and fuel an active nucleus. The frequency of both bars and lopsidedness can be used to constrain the gas accretion rate.

Dynamics of the Central kpc in Barred Galaxies : Theory and Modeling

The central kpc of barred galaxies exhibits a wealth of morphological information on different components with clear dynamical consequences. These include nuclear rings, spirals, bars, and more. We argue that this morphology is driven by large-scale stellar bars and analyze its consequences for gas dynamics and the distribution of star-forming regions. Specifically, we focus on gas flows in nes...

Nested Bars and Associated Morphology of Central Kpc in Disk Galaxies

We discuss different aspects of nested bar systems, both observational and theoretical. Such systems consist of a large-scale primary bar leading to the formation of a sub-kpc size secondary bar, whose pattern speed differs substantially from that of the main bar. Specifically, we focus on the origin and gravitational decoupling of nested bars, and their characteristic gas flows on scales of ∼ ...

The role of bars

Secular evolution and fueling is driven by bars in spiral galaxies, and the related dynamical processes are reviewed. It is shown that gravity torques dominate over viscous torques, and produce gas infall to the center. In this infall, the bar wave accepts the angular momentum, which produces its destruction. In the end, a central mass concentration is build, which also contributes to this dest...

Dynamical Decoupling of Nested Bars: Self-gravitating Gaseous Nuclear Bars

A substantial fraction of barred galaxies host additional nuclear bars which tumble with pattern speeds exceeding those of the large-scale (primary) stellar bars. We have investigated the mechanism of formation and dynamical decoupling in such nested bars which include gaseous (secondary) nuclear bars within the full size galactic disks, hosting a double inner Lindblad resonance. Becoming incre...

Global three-dimensional simulations of magnetic field evolution in a galactic disk II. Gas rich galaxies

A fully three-dimensional computation of induction processes in a disk is performed to investigate the evolution of a large-scale magnetic field in gas-rich barred and spiral galaxies in the presence of field diffusion. As input parameters we use time dependent velocity fields obtained from selfconsistent 3D N-body calculations of galactic dynamics. Our present work primarily analyzes the influ...
